In New Mexico, where I grew up, prairie dogs were abundant. I was fascinated by them as a child. I really thought they were some kind of dog. (Now I know that they really are a rodent.) Ew. But dang it...their mannerisms are so cute. I still enjoy watching them when I'm visiting NM. ;^) Speaking of animals...since you're in Amarillo...are you downwind of the stockyards along I40? That's a vicious route to drive b/c I always try to hold my breath for about ten miles or so...not a good idea when you're driving. Yikes. ;^-
Cuteness is a strange condition of our brains. I used to keep mice and then rats as pets when I was young. Rats are exceptionally intelligent and the stories I could tell you about both the mice and the rats are truly wonderful. I thought they were cute. But here's the rub. They are also potentially and often actually a major threat to our way of life. Life's so full of contradictions.
