Friday My Town Shootout

Flora, Fauna, or Pets

Driving through Buellton, CA, alongside Hwy 246, you'll likely see an ostrich farm, as part of the fauna, with many ostriches, and emu's, wandering through the brush out in the open.

The Ostrich

The Emu

Look at the beautiful colors on their neck!  So very different looking! For an extra dollar, you feed them a bowl of kibble (ostrich chow?)

  7. There's an ostrich in the paddock beside the house where I am staying tonight.
this morning I heard it chomping as it was feeding and there's no way I would put my hand anywhere within cooee of it's beak! Your photos are terrific!

  8. Emu and Ostrich Ranching is big here in Texas. Amazing to see a herd of them....or is it a flock...or is it a covey...whatever...they say they are good to eat. Never ate any, but like the Emu Cream/Lotion. Great pictures!

  10. Those...are some seriously unattractive animals! I love the attitude coming from the last one - all, like, "look, lady...you take my picture, you better have snacks."

  15. Love the photos but what struck me as odd was that you have to pay them to feed their food to their birds. Hmmmm.

  16. GB-I'm sure that has a whole lot to do with the support of those animals. We commented on that at the time. We are paying to support this operation. And we were okay with that... :)
